Highly recommend default layout. Air=L-Joy/Dpad, Ground=Buttons/R-Joy (or Reverse). Try laying the controller on your lap (maybe use a pillow) and tap the Track Pads like a Keyboard. Center tap either Pad to activate FEVER as well as Air or Ground.
