No click necessary - just touch the left pad in the direction you want to go, and tap the right pad instead of the a-button. It's touch sensitive, there's no need to click the pads in (though it won't hurt if you do). Clicking the left pad is the same as clicking the left stick, so you can reset easily using left pad click + left bumper
